Higher Education Key to Nation’s Bright Future: Chairman Senate

ISLAMABAD, June 27 (TNF): Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani on Thursday emphasized that higher education is vital for the rapid development of Pakistan and serves as a guarantee for the country’s bright future, The Nation reported.

Speaking at the convocation of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Science and Technology (GIKI), Gillani highlighted the essential role of a skilled workforce in achieving sustainable progress and development. He commended GIKI for its exemplary performance and contributions across various fields, noting that institutions like GIKI are instrumental in equipping the nation with capable professionals.

“The technology sector plays a vital role in accelerating development, and we have witnessed significant improvements in Pakistan’s digital economy,” he stated. Gillani added that Pakistan now ranks fourth globally in the freelancing sector, and encouraged GIKI graduates to leverage their skills to contribute meaningfully to national progress.

He stressed the importance of research and innovation in tackling both local and global challenges such as climate change, food security, and sustainable energy. “Students must apply their knowledge for the betterment of humanity and to secure a sustainable future for coming generations,” he said.

Gillani noted that Pakistan’s education sector is undergoing transformation and underscored the need to embrace technology to meet emerging demands. He also highlighted initiatives like Digital Nation Pakistan and the establishment of Special Technology Zones as part of efforts to promote growth and attract investment in the tech sector.

Calling convocations a milestone marking new beginnings, Gillani thanked the President of the Society for Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology (SOPREST), Engineer Saleem Saifullah Khan; Executive Director Shakeel Durrani; and other organizers for their contributions to science education and development.

Saleem Saifullah Khan, in his remarks, urged a shift towards self-reliance for sustainable economic growth and praised the efforts of GIKI’s faculty. He acknowledged the parents of graduating students for their support and dedication.
