US imposes stricter visa rules for Pakistani students and exchange visitors

ISLAMABAD, June 27 (TNF): Pakistani applicants seeking F, M, or J category non-immigrant visas have been advised by the United States consulates in Karachi and Lahore to make their social media accounts public for vetting purposes, according to a report.

This directive follows similar instructions issued earlier this week by the US Embassy in New Delhi and comes in line with the Trump administration’s resumption of student visa appointments accompanied by enhanced social media scrutiny.

The consulates announced via Instagram that all applicants for these visa categories must immediately adjust their privacy settings on all social media accounts to “public” to facilitate the vetting process required to verify their identity and admissibility to the United States.

The post highlighted that since 2019, visa applicants have been required to provide social media identifiers on their forms and must accurately list account handles for each platform.

The F and M visas pertain to students, while the J visa applies to individuals participating in approved exchange visitor programs. The consulate warned that failure to provide social media details could result in visa denial and impact eligibility for future US visas.
