ISLAMABAD, June 27 (TNF): Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has earned significant international recognition by securing top positions in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025, which assess universities’ contributions toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
AIOU ranked first among federal universities in Pakistan and second among all public sector universities nationwide for SDG 4: Quality Education, highlighting its commitment to providing inclusive and equitable learning opportunities.
The university also achieved the top position in Pakistan for SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, reflecting its efforts to support employment, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment.
Additionally, AIOU secured first place in the country for SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, underlining its dedication to fostering social equity and building strong collaborative networks. For SDG 1: No Poverty, the university stood at an impressive third position nationally.
Expressing pride in the university’s accomplishments, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood said these rankings demonstrate AIOU’s alignment with global academic standards. He emphasized that the university’s curriculum, laboratories, faculty, and academic processes meet international benchmarks, and that ongoing reforms continue to strengthen the quality of education offered.
“These achievements not only bring honor to AIOU but also to Pakistan as a whole,” Dr. Mahmood remarked.
