UK-Pakistan Collaboration Brings 250-Bed Islamabad Hospital Closer to Reality

ISLAMABAD, June 25 (TNF): A groundbreaking partnership between the UK’s Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Pakistani healthcare provider Novacare is set to transform Pakistan’s medical landscape with the establishment of a 250-bed, world-class hospital in Islamabad.

This landmark agreement marks the first official affiliation between an NHS Trust and a hospital in Pakistan, aimed at introducing British clinical expertise, training standards, and advanced healthcare practices to the country. The hospital is scheduled to open in 2026 and promises to deliver a new standard of patient care by integrating international knowledge with cutting-edge infrastructure.

According to updates published in The Daily Times, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust—one of London’s leading medical institutions—will provide expert support in hospital planning, clinical governance, staffing, and training. Novacare will pay affiliate fees for these services, which will be reinvested into the UK’s NHS, reinforcing a collaborative and sustainable cross-border healthcare model.

British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott CMG OBE, highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating that the partnership brings the UK’s world-leading healthcare expertise to Pakistan while supporting the NHS at home. She emphasized that by sharing advanced clinical practices and building medical staff capacity, the collaboration aims to strengthen healthcare delivery and ultimately save lives.

The upcoming hospital will offer services across 28 clinical specialties, including cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics, neurology, and maternal health. The facility will incorporate smart building systems, AI-enhanced vertical transportation, and advanced technologies for infection control and fall prevention—ensuring a safer and more patient-centered environment.

As part of the agreement, Novacare clinicians will participate in multidisciplinary team meetings at Imperial NHS facilities, receive structured training aligned with NHS standards, and consult UK specialists for second opinions. In select complex cases, patients may also be referred to Imperial’s private healthcare services in London, deepening international cooperation and generating revenue for the NHS.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott and the UK’s Trade Envoy to Pakistan, MP Mohammad Yasin—currently on a three-day visit—recently toured the hospital’s construction site and received a detailed briefing from Novacare’s leadership.
