Comprehensive Security Plan in Place for 181 Muharram Processions, 965 Majalis in Islamabad

A total of 181 religious processions and 965 Majalis are scheduled to take place in Islamabad during the holy month of Muharram, according to details shared during a high-level security meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Mohsin Naqvi, on Wednesday.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Interior, reviewed the security and administrative arrangements to ensure peace, sectarian harmony, and the safety of citizens during this sensitive period. As per information obtained from the Associated Press of Pakistan, Minister Naqvi reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order throughout the month.

The session was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Additional Secretary Interior, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, ADCG, DIGs, all SPs, and Assistant Commissioners. The Deputy Commissioner and DIG Islamabad presented a comprehensive briefing on the preparations undertaken by the district administration and law enforcement agencies.

Minister Naqvi instructed authorities to enforce stringent security measures, including strict checking at all entry and exit points of processions and Majalis venues. He also ordered the deployment of advanced surveillance through a central control room established at Islamabad Safe City to enable real-time monitoring of events.

A multi-layered security plan has been finalized, covering all routes and gathering points. Officials confirmed that geo-tagging of Imambargahs, Majalis locations, and procession routes has already been completed to ensure coordinated response and monitoring.

The interior minister emphasized zero tolerance for hate speech and provocative content on social media. He directed digital surveillance teams to closely monitor online platforms and prevent the spread of any inflammatory material that could disrupt public order.

Acknowledging the demanding nature of duties during Muharram, Naqvi instructed that duty rosters be designed in shifts to ensure adequate rest for security personnel. He also ordered the provision of food and refreshments to on-duty staff and urged all agencies to maintain high levels of coordination and vigilance.

Naqvi stressed the importance of implementing the code of conduct and called for continuous engagement with religious scholars from all sects to promote unity and mutual understanding. Appealing to the public, he urged citizens to demonstrate religious tolerance and uphold respect for all communities during the month.

Officials confirmed that a thorough security audit has been conducted and all law enforcement agencies are fully mobilized to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram in the federal capital.
