KARACHI, June 27 (TNF): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast the beginning of Karachi’s first monsoon spell from today i.e., Friday, with intermittent rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds expected to continue through Sunday.
In its latest weather advisory, the PMD noted that hot and humid conditions will persist in the city on Thursday, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures ranging between 35°C and 37°C.
The approaching weather activity is associated with a westerly system currently moving across the western parts of the country. As a result, most of Sindh is likely to experience thunderstorms, rain, and gusty winds from June 27 to June 29, the PMD said.
The department warned that moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in certain areas of Karachi, potentially disrupting daily life.
In addition to the metropolis, rain and thunderstorms are forecast across several districts in Sindh, including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Dadu, Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Jacobabad, Ghotki, and Kashmore.
The Met Office has cautioned that heavy rainfall, strong winds, and lightning could result in urban flooding, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and damage to weaker structures, including billboards, electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels.
Farmers have been advised to adjust their agricultural plans in line with the forecast, while local authorities have been urged to take preventive measures to mitigate the impact of the upcoming weather system and ensure public safety.
