WASHINGTON, June 28 (TNF): US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib on Friday fiercely criticized the Trump administration’s decision to allocate $30 million to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), describing the funding as support for what she called a “death trap” amid Israel’s ongoing military campaign in the Gaza Strip. Taking to X, Tlaib accused the administration of facilitating genocide, highlighting that Israeli forces have repeatedly targeted Palestinians desperate for food.
“Nearly every day this month, Israeli forces have deliberately shot and killed starving Palestinians seeking food. Now, the Trump Admin has decided to support this death trap with $30 million. This is genocide — we are funding it. And the world is doing nothing to stop it,” she wrote.
Her statement followed the US State Department’s announcement a day earlier confirming the funding approval for the GHF — an Israeli-led initiative aimed at organizing aid distribution inside Gaza. The plan has faced significant backlash from UN agencies and humanitarian groups, who argue it endangers civilians rather than protecting them.
State Department spokesman Thomas Pigott defended the move, urging other nations to contribute to the foundation’s efforts. He praised the GHF’s reported delivery of over 46 million meals while allegedly preventing aid from being seized by Hamas, calling it an “incredible” achievement that deserves global support.
Since its launch on May 27, the GHF has operated distribution sites across Gaza, but critics, including local authorities, describe these locations as perilous for civilians. Gaza’s officials report that nearly 550 Palestinians have been killed at these sites, with 39 still unaccounted for and more than 4,000 wounded during aid collection attempts.
