Abbasi Urges Rail Officials to Engage Passengers, Boost Dry Port Revenue

ISLAMABAD, July 3 (TNF): Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi on Thursday called for stronger direct engagement between railway staff and passengers, stressing the need to address passenger concerns without delay.

Chairing a performance review meeting on railway dry ports, Abbasi instructed senior railway officials to regularly visit stations to monitor operations and enhance services. The meeting featured an in-depth review of the revenue streams and operational performance of Mughalpura, Islamabad, and Azakhel dry ports. Officials also extensively debated the option of outsourcing management of all railway dry ports to maximize earnings. Abbasi highlighted the significant untapped potential of these facilities to contribute to the national exchequer.

The minister directed all Divisional Superintendents (DSs) to focus on reforms and to carry out their duties with full dedication. He further ordered that no gas cylinders be installed at stations or on trains without prior approval from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). To enforce this, Abbasi announced the launch of a strict inspection drive ensuring that only OGRA-certified gas cylinders are permitted.

Additionally, Abbasi introduced a performance-based reward scheme for Station Masters, focusing on achievements in cleanliness, landscaping, beautification, and maintenance. He pledged that Station Masters demonstrating outstanding performance would receive personal recognition and rewards from him.
