ISLAMABAD, July 3 (TNF): A key meeting of the Sub-Committee on Arts and Literature for the Pakistan Civil Awards 2025 was held Thursday at the Cabinet Division to review nominations and advance efforts to honor the nation’s cultural luminaries. The session was presided over by Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Muhammad Aurangzeb Khichi.
The committee examined 129 nominations forwarded by various institutions, with a focus on individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Pakistan’s arts and literary landscape. Emphasizing fairness and transparency, all members agreed that the selection process must uphold merit and accurately reflect the diversity and richness of the country’s cultural identity.
The meeting drew participation from officials representing the Cabinet Secretariat, National Heritage and Culture Division, Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Division, and members from literary and artistic communities. Federal Secretary for National Heritage and Culture Asad Rehman Gilani and IPC Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani were also in attendance.
Aurangzeb Khichi stressed that the decision-making process should be guided by meaningful input from subject experts rather than rigid criteria like formal tests or grading systems. The committee voiced concern over the lack of nominations from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Arts and Culture Department, with the minister assuring that any suitable names submitted from the province would be evaluated on merit.
The session included a detailed assessment of nominees, their achievements, and the award categories under consideration. Khichi further recommended that no cap be placed on the number of award recipients, so that all deserving individuals can be acknowledged for their contributions. The committee’s recommendations will now proceed for final approval as part of the Pakistan Civil Awards 2025 process.
