COLOMBO, June 27 (TNF): Pakistan 1, featuring national cue stars Muhammad Asif and Awais Munir, stormed into the knockout stage of the Asian Team Snooker Championship 2025 after back-to-back wins at the Moors Sports Club on Thursday. The team began their campaign in dominant fashion, securing a clean 3-0 victory over Cambodia’s Neang Tola and Saochetapheam Lon. Munir gave Pakistan an early lead with an 82-30 win over Tola, followed by Asif’s solid 59-16 triumph over Lon. In the decisive doubles frame, Munir’s impressive 78-point break ensured an emphatic win.
Their second match saw Pakistan 1 overcome Qatar 3-1 despite a slow start. Munir lost the opener to Ali Al Obaidli, but Asif’s 55-point break helped level the match with an 82-23 win over Bashar Abdul Majeed. The duo then teamed up to outclass Qatar 63-30 in doubles before Munir bounced back to defeat Obaidli, sealing victory and a knockout berth. Pakistan 1 will face Sri Lanka 1 in their final group fixture on Friday.
Meanwhile, Pakistan 2, comprising Shahid Aftab and Muhammad Sajjad, had mixed fortunes. They staged a comeback win over Bahrain after trailing 2-0, taking the next three frames to snatch victory. However, their momentum faltered in a 3-1 loss to Chinese Taipei. Pakistan 2 will take on Sri Lanka 2 in their last group match on Friday.
