New Research Highlights Hasrat Mohani’s Unique Blend of Earthly and Divine Love in Urdu Poetry

ISLAMABAD, June 27 (TNF): A newly published research article has brought fresh insight into the poetry of renowned Urdu poet Hasrat Mohani, shedding light on his distinctive portrayal of love as both a worldly and spiritual experience.

The study, authored by research scholar Sajjad Haider and faculty member Dr. Inayat Murtaza Shahzad of Muslim Youth University, Islamabad, appears in Zaban-o-Adab, an HEC-recognized research journal published by Government College University, Faisalabad.

The paper explores how Hasrat Mohani’s poetry presents a beautiful fusion of ishq-e-majazi (earthly love) and ishq-e-haqiqi (divine love). According to the researchers, Mohani’s concept of love transcends mere emotion, emerging as a pure, selfless, and eternal experience that deeply reflects sincerity and truthfulness.

His verses are noted for their simplicity, eloquence, and the way they express the helplessness, pain, and longing of a true lover. Unlike traditional romantic poetry, Mohani’s work captures not only the adoration of the beloved but also the spiritual depth and inner turmoil of genuine love.

The researchers emphasize that this study is a meaningful contribution to the promotion of Urdu language and poetry, particularly at a time when the language is facing diminishing focus in academic and literary circles.
