RAMALLAH, June 28 (TNF): Israeli troops detained 27 Palestinians, including a journalist, during extensive overnight operations across multiple areas in the occupied West Bank on Saturday, according to the Prisoners Media Office linked to Hamas. The arrests took place mainly in the northern parts of the territory, with the districts of Nablus, Qalqilya, Salfit, and Jenin witnessing the largest military incursions.
The latest wave of arrests comes amid ongoing tensions and violence that have gripped the West Bank since the outbreak of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza on October 7, 2023. Figures from the Palestinian Health Ministry reveal that since then, at least 986 Palestinians have been killed and more than 7,000 wounded in the West Bank by Israeli troops and settlers.
Last year, the International Court of Justice issued a historic legal opinion, ruling Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories unlawful and urging the dismantling of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The situation on the ground, however, continues to deteriorate with mounting violence and arrests.
