BUENOS AIRES, June 28 (TNF): Tenaris has started building its second wind farm in Argentina. The project, named La Rinconada, is located in Olavarría, Buenos Aires province. The company announced this in an official press release.
La Rinconada will have 21 wind turbines. Together, they will provide 94.5 megawatts of power. The project involves an investment of $214 million. Tenaris plans to finish construction by the end of 2025. The new wind farm will work alongside Buena Ventura, Tenaris’s first wind farm. Buena Ventura started operations in 2023. Both sites will supply renewable energy to Tenaris’s Siderca seamless pipe plant in Campana.
Andrea Previtalli, head of Tenaris operations in the Southern Cone, said the wind farm will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 100,000 tons per year compared to 2018 levels. Each turbine will generate 4.5 megawatts. The site will produce about 400 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually with a 54.5% capacity factor.
Tenaris will invest over $400 million in Argentina’s renewable energy between 2021 and 2025. The company is also pursuing other green initiatives. In Argentina, it is installing an electric arc furnace with Consteel technology. In Colombia, it is adding electric heating systems. In China, Italy, and Romania, it is expanding solar energy projects.
In Romania, Tenaris recently opened its first solar power park. The park generates 20 megawatts and powers its steel plant in Calarasi. Meanwhile, Tenaris reported a 5% drop in total pipe sales in 2024. The company shipped 3.93 million tons, down from 4.14 million tons in 2023. Seamless pipe deliveries fell 4% to 3.08 million tons. Welded pipe shipments dropped 11% to 852,000 tons.
